CLEANING TIPS FOR YOUR EVERY DAY LIFE

LIVING ROOM / FAMILY ROOM

Daily: On a daily basis, collect any toys, mail, etc. that has accumulated over the course of the day and put them in a pile in the middle of the room. One by one, put them where they belong.

Weekly: One day per week, dust around the room - working left to right and top to bottom. From there, you can move on to cleaning your coffee table and other surfaces. After dusting, it is also a good time to vacuum your furniture, removing and rotating sofa cushions to encourage even wear and increase their useful life.

Monthly: Move your furniture and vacuum beneath it. Wash your windows as well, you should also clean your furniture as necessary.

Yearly: On a yearly basis, you should evaluate your living room, taking care to de-clutter and dusting anything that is hard to reach (i.e. ceiling fan) using a ladder as necessary. This is also a good opportunity to clean your fireplace if you have one.

BEDROOM

Sheets: Should be washed at least once a week (pillow cases as well) cleaning your sheets frequently can prevent breakouts and decrease the need to clean your mattress. Maximize your time by throwing your sheets in the washer before you begin cleaning your bedroom.

Floors: Carpets are deceiving—they can look clean, but can be full of dust, crumbs and dirt. We recommend that you vacuum at least once a week, possibly more often in areas of high traffic. When cleaning your bedroom, vacuum from the inside out so that you’re not stepping over newly vacuumed areas. Dust and pollen can settle behind and beneath beds and dressers, creating a stuffy environment.

KITCHEN

Countertops: Granite -- Wash the surface with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. A mild bleach solution may be used. Don't use abrasive cleaners or scrub pads because they may scratch the surface. To remove stains, make a paste of baking soda, water or talc mixed with a diluted solution of ammonia, bleach, or hydrogen peroxide. Gently scrub the spot with the paste and a soft brush. Several applications may be necessary to lift the stain.

Laminate -- Use warm, soapy water, mild bleach solution, or a nonabrasive kitchen cleaner. Don't use abrasive cleaning pads, use a soft toothbrush along seams or along metal edging. Take care when using bleach solution, it may alter the countertop color or cause other surface damage. Test first in an inconspicuous spot.

Marble -- Clean regularly with a damp soft cloth (microfibre works well) to avoid steaks. Wipe dry with a clean cloth, never let it air dry because marble is prone to water spots. For deeper cleaning use a PH neutral dishwashing liquid mixed with warm water. Rinse thoroughly to get rid of any residue or wipe completely dry.

Floors: First sweep floors thoroughly, being sure to flush dirt from corners or under appliances. Use warm water and a mop/cloth and dish soap. Do not over apply dish soap, only light bubbles should appear in water. Gently scrub the floor, stubborn spots may require the rubber bristled brush and cleaning. Make sure the floor is try before resuming use to avoid spots.
